In our experience, understanding the relationship between your mental health and sensory processing is essential for overcoming challenges with neurodiversity and other mental health presentations.

But what does “sensory” mean?

When we talk about sensory, we are talking about how the brain processes the world around it using smell, taste, touch, sound, sight, body awareness and balance. Everyone has different sensory preferences, and when these preferences make it difficult to do the things you want to do in life, it can contribute to mental health challenges such as anxiety.

For example, someone who has a sensitivity to touch might find being on the tube at rush hour exceptionally challenging and get benefit from adjusting how or when they are travelling – this may improve their anxiety, often significantly.

We are clinical leaders in this field, with our team of highly skilled Occupational Therapists undertaking intensive and specialist training. This enables us to map out which sensory accommodations might work best for you.  Our clients have found this piece of information has been incredibly helpful when communicating with schools, universities, and workplaces to ensure they can maximise their success within these environments.

The meeting will take place either in person or online and take approximately 90 minutes.

In this time, the therapist will conduct an interview where we will be talking about your daily routines and how the sensory processing impacts on your daily life. Your Occupational Therapist will then put together a report that reflects these findings.

You can then use your report in coaching or therapy sessions to help support the work you are doing and get the very best results.

£600 – This includes your screening appointment and report, which is generally prepared within 10–14 days after the screening.

The sensory assessment was really interesting, it was nothing like I expected and actually turned out to be a lot more useful than I thought – Andreia was brilliant, she really put me at ease and made everything as comfortable as possible even offering to split the session into two. She went through the questionnaires asking for more detailed information because of which I realised that proprioceptive and vestibular processing were an issue for me which was not something that I had ever considered. Andreia discussed ways that I could help relieve the anxiety and stress these sensory issues were causing and suggested how we could structure the report recommendations in the best way to help me. I received a very clear and easy to understand report and a programme to follow to help alleviate my anxiety and stress. More importantly for me she also understood that I would struggle to put the recommendations into practice and offered further follow up session if I needed them to help me on my journey.
