Occupational Therapy Assessment for Mental Health, Sensory Needs & Neurodivergence

Are you struggling to cope in your current home due to your mental health, sensory processing difficulties, or neurodivergent needs?

Our specialist Housing Assessment Service is designed to understand and evidence how your environment is impacting your ability to live safely, independently, and with dignity.

This service is delivered by a Mental Health Occupational Therapist, experienced in supporting individuals whose mental health and neurodivergence (such as Autism, ADHD, trauma histories, or emotional dysregulation) affect their daily functioning. We recognise that the home can be a source of overwhelm, anxiety, shutdown, or distress, and that a poorly matched environment can severely impact wellbeing.

To ensure emotional regulation, safety, and support throughout the visit, the assessment is carried out by both an Occupational Therapist and an Occupational Therapy Assistant.

What the service includes:

  • A 1.5-hour home visit by a Mental Health Occupational Therapist
  • A full functional assessment focused on how your mental health, sensory regulation, and/or neurodivergenceare affected by your current living environment
  • Consideration of factors such as:
  • Overstimulation from noise, light, or clutter
  • Anxiety, low mood, or distress triggered by environmental conditions

Home Assessments for Families, Children and Adolescents

What the service includes

We offer comprehensive home-based assessments for families, children, and adolescents, carried out by experienced Paediatric Occupational Therapists.

What We Assess

  • Functional abilities We evaluate how well individuals manage everyday activities such as self-care, household tasks, work or educational responsibilities, and social participation. This helps us understand where support may be needed to enhance independence and quality of life.
  • Sensory processing We assess how individuals process and respond to sensory information from their environment, including sounds, textures, lights, and movement. Sensory processing difficulties can significantly impact emotional wellbeing, concentration, and the ability to engage in daily activities.
  • Emotional regulation We explore how individuals recognize, understand, and manage their emotions in different situations. This includes identifying triggers, coping strategies, and patterns that may affect mental health and daily functioning.
  • Impact of the home environment on daily life We examine how the physical and social aspects of the home environment support or hinder daily routines, relaxation, productivity, and overall well being. This includes identifying environmental modifications that could promote better mental health outcomes.

Our Approach

  • Each assessment is tailored to the individual needs of the child and family We recognize that every person’s mental health journey is unique. Our assessments are personalized to address specific concerns, goals, and circumstances, ensuring that recommendations are meaningful and achievable within your family context.
  • Fees are determined on a case-by-case basis and reflect the complexity of the presentation, assessment requirements, and level of clinical input required Mental health presentations vary greatly in complexity. Our pricing structure acknowledges this by considering factors such as the depth of assessment needed, the number of areas being evaluated, and the time required to develop comprehensive, evidence-based recommendations.
  • Full details and costs are discussed at the point of enquiry following initial information gathering Transparency is important to us. Once we understand your specific needs through our initial conversation, we’ll provide clear information about what the assessment will involve and the associated costs, allowing you to make an informed decision about proceeding.
